Now that we have met the king of camouflage, let's meet one of the pretenders to the throne. This beautiful soft coral is a Dendronephthya sp. It forms colonies of intricate spiny polyps, each only a few millimeters in size, which are arranged together in tree-like structures. This photograph shows just a small section (about 5 cm by 3.5 cm) of one of these trees. But the Dendronephthya is not the pretender. The other species in the picture is. Don't you see it?
