ABOUT SCREENSAVERS
from
www.reefimages.com
Our screen savers contain only high quality images of the wonderful range of living things found in the tropical oceans. They will make your computer at home or in your office not only an enjoyable experience but also a guaranteed conversation piece. If you are a diver and have ever dived, especially in the tropical Pacific Ocean, they will serve as a reminder of your personal experiences and an easy means to explain to others just what it is that you attracts you to diving. This is especially true if you have ever had the privilege of diving in either of the two world class dive destinations featured in their own screen savers: Lembeh Straits, Indonesia (often just known as KBR), and Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea. To see an example of our screen savers for yourself before you purchase one on CD/ROM, we invite you to download our Cephalopods screen saver.
The images in our screen savers are produced from high resolution (at least 2000ppi) scans of our original 35mm slides. The high resolution scans are then converted into 1024x768 high quality jpg files. These image files are average between 200 and 250Kb each and are encapsulated in our screen savers without any further compression (hence, with no loss of detail or quality) . Thus, the images in our screen savers are not only more than double the size of the individual image files that are displayed in our web site, they are also less compressed and, therefore, crisper and more detailed. Using such large files does mean that most of our screensavers do take up a significant amount of hard disk space on the users computer (between about 10 and 75Megabytes). However, we believe these constraints are a small price to pay for viewing these images without the distortion and loss of quality that would be associated with more compressed images. To benefit from the high quality of the images in our screen savers you should use them with a screen settings of 1024x768 and 32 bit color. However, they will still display well at other settings.
All our screen savers are self-installing and are designed and tested for computers with Windows operating systems (WIN 95 and above). We do not warranty that they will operate properly on any other operating system. If you are using another operating system please be certain that standard Windows screensavers (.scr files) will install and operate properly on your system.
Installation and configuration information applicable to all of our screensavers can be found in our help file.
